LOL. I totally understand. I am really passionate about my hip-hop music. These wannabe gangster rap artists of today make what I truly love and have listened to for 22 years now, look so bad to those who "don't know what time it is."

yeah, you
are right with Rappers Delight- i thought that was 1984, but was wrong- looked it up.... but, anyway, you understand what i was saying- and not that i meant Grandmaster STARTED rap...i understand what you're saying too...so its all good! would be so much easier if we were actually talking to each other rather than emailing- my fingers cant keep up with my brain! lol

"The Message" was indeed a huge success and to see Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel (2 black youths) on the front page a major American news magazine was a big deal. I think most would say that "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang was the first "real" rap/hip-hop hit. That being said, some will say that the
1st #1 rap song in America was Blondie's "Rapture," a song you mentioned. I would disagree with that. Just to add, The Sugarhill Gang did not start rap either.

The Message was one of the first big commercial "rap" hits here, with the exception of Rapture, and a few others.... i didn't mean he started it- but that track was pioneering
for commercial hip-hop... others too- oops upside ya head, etc...but pre 1984 black artists rarely received radio play ( with the exception of MJ, Prince, Donna Summer etc ) let alone hip hop artists... maybe things were different in the states

No offense, but Grandmaster Flash? First of all, Grandmaster Flash did not start hip-hop music, let alone those embarrassing bling wearing "artists" that are out now that give rap a bad name, "smoke the bud," and act like they are gangsters. Secondly, if you want to know who is responsible for all of the type of stuff you hear now, where rap artists do not use sampling and wouldn't know a scratch if their arce itched, the answer is Dr. Dre in my opinion. In 1993, Dr. Dre released The Chronic album and every since then, most of the so called rap artists who followed
started to use synths in their music and rapped so slowly that you'd think they were high. Oh wait, I think they were high! Dr. Dre made marajuana smoking "trendy" to a lot of youths. Before that 1993 release, I never saw folks wear shirts and hats and medallions with a pot leaf on it. Yes, Dr. Dre is a special talented producer and is a pioneer in rap/hip-hop, but he is, in my opinion, also responsible for the downfall to come. Thank the maker for such underground hip-hoppers such as Jurassic 5, MF Doom, Madlib, DJ Shadow, and DJ Z-Trip. I'm done.

i agree that the market is dominated by rap/rnb at the moment- and whats worse is its BAD rap and rnb....Grandmaster Flash must be horrified at what he started!!!!...thats why i dont criticize the "idol" phenominum- these guys seem to adding a little variety to our airwaves, especially in Australia anyway.....
