I was 8, and in 3rd grade. I remember seeing GJWTHF on a Friday afternoon video show (anyone remember that??) and being totally transfixed with this insane woman with the orange hair. I had never seen anyone who was comfortable with being as different as I felt. The image of Cyndi in the red dress, "dancing wildly" down the street completely took my breath away. My mother got me the SSU tape, and thus began a two decades argument between she and I. My mom hates Cyndi with a passion - I gave her the Shine and At Last CD's and I think she actually threw them away. I guess there really is no accounting for taste...
